ARAC International Inc. has launched ARAC Community NYC at community.arac-international.org. The site is the community media home for ARAC’s work in New York City and will publish the photo and video stories our volunteers produce at cultural events across the five boroughs.
What the site covers
The site has three commitments.
- Positive Peace in the city. We promote and cover cultural awareness events sponsored by the City of New York that embody the eight Pillars of Positive Peace defined by the Institute for Economics & Peace. This work forms part of ARAC’s Positive Peace mandate, led by M. Nuri Shakoor as an IEP Positive Peace Ambassador.
- Media and digital literacy for every community. Through THINK, ARAC offers services and toolkits for critical thinking, digital literacy and AI literacy, and advocates for community tools and services that give every neighborhood access to them.
- Understanding diaspora communities. We cover events within New York’s international communities to improve understanding of the social, political and economic issues they face, and to highlight gatherings that promote unity and goodwill.
Who makes it
Stories are produced by ARAC volunteers, including photographers and contributors from the ARAC MIND Youth Project and the ARAC NY Urban Art Project. Every photograph is credited to the volunteer who made it. The full roster is on the About page.
How to follow
Event stories publish in NYC Events. Announcements and media coverage publish in Press & Media. Photo collections and press assets are gathered in the Media Library. Readers can follow new stories through the RSS feed or the ARAC newsletter.
